How long does it take to donate a car?
The donation process only takes a few minutes.
After you submit the vehicle information, the towing company will contact you within 24 hours to arrange pickup. Pickup is typically scheduled for the following day, although the exact timing can vary depending on location and scheduling.
What happens after I submit my donation?
After you submit your donation online, you’ll receive a confirmation email with your donation ID number. Our team will contact you within two business days to arrange pickup.
Before your vehicle is picked up, make sure you have the clear title in the donor’s name and remove all personal belongings from the vehicle. After your donation is processed, you’ll receive a tax receipt.
Do I need to have my title?
Yes, you should have your vehicle title available when you donate.
The title establishes ownership of the vehicle and needs to be properly transferred to the National Kidney Foundation of Utah & Idaho.
If you have lost your title, contact the appropriate state motor vehicle agency or Kidney Kars for instructions on obtaining a replacement.
Can I donate a car that doesn’t run?
Yes. A vehicle does not need to be running to be donated.
Kidney Kars can accept many vehicles that are old, damaged, non-running, or otherwise difficult to sell privately.
When you donate, provide accurate information about the vehicle’s condition, including major mechanical problems, collision damage, missing parts, or other issues.

What does Kidney Kars do with donations?
After your vehicle is donated, it is evaluated based on its condition, mileage, and value. Depending on the vehicle, it may be sold at auction, on consignment, or for parts and recycling.

How does the tax deduction work?
Your donated vehicle may qualify for a tax deduction. If you itemize your deductions, you can generally claim up to $499 for your vehicle donation. If your vehicle sells for more than $500, you can generally deduct the vehicle’s actual selling price.
